WWN - The world's oldest animal was killed at the hands of Bangor University in the UK scientists who are doing research in 2006.The story, in 2006, one individual ocean quahog (Arctica islandica) or a type of sea shells washed up on the shore region of Iceland. Scientists then took, opened the shell, and start analyzing. Thus automatically animals were killed.

Nothing special at first. However, after doing the analysis, then the scientists were surprised to learn the age of the quahog.Based on a preliminary analysis of the time, scientists predict, it is already old quahog 400 when arrested. Quahog it entered the Guinness Book of Records as the oldest animal in the world and named Ming, according dynasty in China who were in power when the individual is born.

After re-analysis conducted recently, scientists knew that the animal was 507 years old when he was arrested, about 100 years older than previously thought.Whether to be sad to know that the world's oldest animal turns slain. However, Paul Butler, one of the scientists involved in the analysis process recently, saying that while the research there are 200 people who were arrested. Each year, many quahog also arrested.

"So, very likely fisherman catch the same quahog old or older than we catch," he said as quoted by the Huffington Post, Thursday (14/11/2013).Scientists themselves oldest quahog catch it to examine the impact of environmental changes, such as salinity, availability of food, the temperature of sea water, and climate change on the lives of marine biota.

Scientists determine the age quahog shell based on a circular pattern that is often called the circle of growth, the same as found in the tree.Circular pattern formed by the difference in shell growth when summer and winter. During summer, food is widely available so that the shell grows rapidly while in winter the opposite.

With 507 years of age, mean quahog was born in 1499, before Columbus discovered America and before the Dutch came to Indonesia.
